OLD: Bibliographic database retrieval
Here you can find OLD information about
bibliographic database retrival
in mathematics at the University of Bayreuth.
Note that more general information concerning database retrieval
could be found at the
Central Library of the University
of Bayreuth.
An updated version could be find following
this link.
All information offered here were maintained by
Robert Baier, Bernhard Daubner and Jens Kufer, who were working in the
DMV-project "Verbesserung des benutzerorientierten Zugriffs auf
fachspezifische Online-Datenbanken und CD-ROM"
(= Improving the user-orientated access to online-databases and CD-ROM).
We want to point out that we provide the information here mainly for
students and members of the University of Bayreuth. And as we do not think
that many people from abroad are interested in these quite specific topics,
most items are in German language.
To get an account for using the online-database Math (together
with databases for Computer Science, Physics, ...), you have to have an
account at the computing center for the UNIX cluster and you have to give a
signed form to Prof. Lempio who is responsible for information about
database retrieval at the Department of Mathematics. This form has to
be signed by you (student, assistant, professor, ...) and the professor
at the chair you belong to.
You will get this form at the secretary of Prof. Lempio (Mrs. Dulleck,
room number 531, NWII, only from 8:00 till 12:00). You could get it also
in a new version as a DVI-file or a
PostScript file.
First steps in bibliographic database retrieval
For a short introduction in bibliographic database retrieval
you should read the text
Literaturrecherche - Eine Einführung.
This text also gives you an overview about the search possibilities in Bayreuth.
More detailed information you can find in the manual Einführung
in die Benutzung der Datenbanken Math und CompactMath
by Prof. Dr. F. Lempio, which is available as
DVI-File
or as
Postscript-file.
At the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bayreuth several
lectures have been hold about Bibliographic Database Retrieval.
The script to the last lecture is now available:
HTML-File,
DVI-File or Postscript-file
Electronical search possibilities for literature at the University of
Bayreuth
- UNIrech
- The program
UNIrech
is used to connect oneself with the bibliographic database Math
in Karlsruhe and to search there for literature.
The database is maintained by the
Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe and provided by STN-International.
- CompactMath
- The use of the database Math in Karlsruhe is not cheap. So if you
do not really need the newest information about publications to certain
topics you also can use the so called inhouse-database
CompactMath,
which is available on CD-ROM.
- CompactMath freeWAIS Retrieval
- The FIZ Karlsruhe and the Springer-Verlag provide an experimental
gateway
to the CompactMATH CD-ROM (Period 1990-1995). Of course this access
has got some restrictions. For example you will only get a maximum of
three answers for a query.
- STN-Mentor
-
STN-Mentor
is also a small bibliographic database. It is not used to search for
literature, but to learn the retrieval language
MESSENGER,
which is used for the search in databases.
- OPAC
- The Online Public Access Catalogue
OPAC allows you to search in the database of library of the
Bayreuth University.
You also can find further information about the following topics:
