"Die Struktur von Transfer-Operatoren für
Coupled Cell Systems".

Einladung (PDF-file)
Abstract:

"Unconstrained Nonlinear Model Predictive Control
and Suboptimality Estimates for Continuous-Time Systems".

Einladung (PDF-file)
Abstract:
Model predictive control (MPC) is one of the most successful modern control
methodologies. Its major advantage is the explicit consideration of a
performance criterion and constraints. In MPC, a infinite horizon optimal
control problem is approximated by a sequence of finite horizon problems in a
receding horizon fashion. However, stability is not generally guaranteed due
to the use of a finite prediction horizon. Thus, terminal constraints and an
additional terminal cost function are often used to ensure asymptotic
stability. On the other hand, unconstrained MPC schemes, in the sense that
no terminal constraint is used, are desirable for computational reasons. This
paper presents a continuous-time version of recent results on unconstrained
nonlinear model predictive control schemes. A controllability assumption
allows to guarantee stability and to estimate the performance compared to an
infinite horizon optimal controller. To this end, two abstract
infinite-dimensional linear programs are solved based on the controllability
assumption. The particular structures of both linear programs allow solutions
involving only a single integration of a scalar variable and even simple
analytical solutions for special cases such as exponential controllability.
Based on a these solutions, performance estimates and stability conditions
are derived in terms of the prediction horizon and the sampling time of the
MPC controller. Moreover, improved estimates for small sampling times are
discussed when using a certain growth condition in addition to the
exponential controllability assumption. Finally, a comparison of the
different estimates obtained for continuous-time systems and the application
of the discrete-time results in a sampled-data context is provided.

"Automatisches Differenzieren von
MATLAB-Programmen".
|
Einladung (PDF-file)
Abstract:

"A priori error estimates for the finite element
discretization of control-constrained optimal control problems
governed by semilinear parabolic PDEs".
|
Einladung (PDF-file)
Abstract:
In this talk we are concerned with a priori error estimates for the
space-time finite element discretization of a class of optimal control
problems governed by semilinear parabolic PDEs and box constraints
on the control. For the discretization of the state equation in
time, we will use discontinuous Galerkin methods, whereas for the
spatial discretization we employ usual conforming finite elements.
We extend results for linear-quadratic parabolic optimal control problems
by Meidner and Vexler to the semilinear setting. We are especially
interested in the convergence of local solutions and prove
L2-error estimates based on the assumption of a
second order sucient optimality condition. In the error estimates, we
clearly separate the influence of temporal and spatial discretization.

"Finite volume methods for electronic structure
calculations".
|
Einladung (PDF-file)
Abstract:
Density functional theory is widely used in the study of microscopic
properties of materials. In recent years, finite difference methods, finite
element methods and wavelet methods, are developed for density functional
theory based electronic structure calculations. In this presentation, we will
present a newly developed real space method for electronic structure
calculations. The method is based on a symmetric finite volume
discretization and has been proved efficient in the ground state energy
calculation of a variety of molecular systems. We will also show a couple of
typical examples in electronic structure calculations. This is a joint work
with Prof. Aihui ZHOU, Prof. Xinggao GONG and Dr. Xiaoying DAI
at Institute of Computational Mathematics of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
